Professional Christmas light installers work on a short, busy calendar. Almost every client wants their lights up between early November and mid-December, and there are only so many install days in that window. Here’s how to time your booking in North Texas.
The short version
- September – October: Best time to book. Widest choice of install dates.
- Early November: Good. Most dates still available, but weekends fill first.
- Mid-November to Thanksgiving: Book as soon as possible. Many dates will be taken.
- December: Possible, but limited. Call and ask.
- January: Takedown season.
Why book early?
Install dates are limited. Each installation takes a crew most of a morning or afternoon, and the season is only about six weeks long. The most popular dates — the two weeks before Thanksgiving — go first.
Design takes a conversation. A good display starts with a consultation: measuring, choosing bulbs and color, deciding which trees to wrap. Booking early gives you time to think it through instead of choosing in a rush.
Weather happens. North Texas can get cold snaps, rain, and the occasional ice storm in November and December. We don’t work on wet or icy roofs, so every season has a few lost days. An early install date gives you a buffer.
Lights up early, on when you’re ready
A common question: “If you install in early November, do I have to turn them on then?” No. We set up a timer, and you can leave it off until whenever you’d like. Many families flip the switch the weekend after Thanksgiving.
Local timing to keep in mind
- Community events. Many families like their lights on before local celebrations — McKinney’s downtown Home for the Holidays festival on Thanksgiving weekend, Frisco’s Merry Main Street, and the Prosper Christmas Festival at Town Hall, for example. Event dates vary by year, so check your city’s calendar.
- Neighborhood traditions. Some neighborhoods, like Deerfield in Plano, are known for their holiday lights and draw visitors throughout the season. If you live in one, book early.
- HOA guidelines. Many master-planned communities have HOA guidelines on exterior décor timing, which can include when lights may go up and when they must come down. We’ll work within your HOA’s rules — share them when you book.
Commercial and HOA projects need more lead time
Businesses and HOAs usually need a site walk, a written proposal, and approval from a manager, landlord, or board. Start those conversations in September or early October so there’s time for approvals before November installs.
Don’t forget takedown
Takedown is included with every install we do. We schedule takedowns in January, starting right after New Year’s. If your HOA has a removal deadline, tell us when you book so we can plan for it.
