If you’re pricing professional Christmas light installation for the first time, the numbers can be confusing. Some companies quote by the foot, some by the package, and some won’t give a number until someone visits your house. This guide explains how pricing works for our installs in McKinney, Prosper, Allen, Plano, Celina, Frisco, and nearby cities — and how to budget for the look you want.
We’re only going to cite our own pricing here. Other companies price differently, and we’d rather give you numbers we can stand behind than repeat figures we can’t verify.
The short answer
Our base rate for roofline and window outlining is $4 to $6 per linear foot.
That covers:
- Measuring your home and designing the layout with you
- Commercial-grade LED C9 bulbs on wire cut to fit each section
- Professional installation with clips — no nails or staples
- Timer setup
- Takedown in January
So a home with about 250 feet of roofline and window outlining would land around $1,000 to $1,500. A smaller one-story home lighting just the front might be 120 feet (about $480–$720). A large two-story home lit on the front and sides might be 400 feet or more ($1,600–$2,400).

Why a range, not a single price?
Two houses with exactly the same footage can take very different amounts of work. Where your project lands in the $4–$6 range depends on:
- Roof height and pitch. A single-story ranch with a gentle pitch is quick and safe to work on. A steep two-story roof needs more equipment and more time.
- Access. Tight side yards, landscaping against the house, or a pool below the roofline slow things down.
- Complexity. Lots of short runs, peaks, and corners take longer than a few long, straight eaves.
- Power. If outlets are far from where the lights start, or a GFCI outlet is shared with other loads, we need more planning and cord.
- Windows. Window outlining is included in the per-foot rate, but many small windows take longer than a few large ones.

What costs extra
Some things aren’t part of the per-foot rate because they vary too much from home to home. We price these at your consultation:
- Trees — wrapped trunks, branches, and canopies. Priced by tree size and density.
- Shrubs and hedges — usually net lights or mini lights.
- Columns and pillars — wrapped porch columns and entry pillars.
- Landscape and pathway lighting.
- Wreaths and garland — on doors, railings, and entries.
- Custom design or color schemes — multi-color, patterns, themes.
- Steep, difficult, or 3-story roof access.
- Electrical work — timers beyond a standard setup, or coordinating a dedicated circuit with a licensed electrician.
- Off-season storage. Optional; add it and you never have to find room for bins. (January takedown of your roofline and windows is already included in the base rate.)
- In-season maintenance — service calls if a section goes out.
Things that affect price you might not expect
HOA rules. Many master-planned communities in North Texas have guidelines on exterior décor timing. They rarely change the price, but they can affect scheduling — especially takedown deadlines.

Minimum job size. Very small jobs (under about 40 feet) still require a crew, a truck, and setup time, so a minimum charge may apply.
How to budget
- Start with your roofline. Get a footage number, either by measuring your roofline or with the estimator’s home-profile option.
- Multiply by $4 and $6. That’s your base range.
- Decide on add-ons. Trees and wreaths make a big visual difference; storage makes the season hands-off (takedown is already included).
- Book a consultation. We’ll confirm footage, walk through options, and give you a written quote.
Is professional installation worth it?
It depends on what you value. If you enjoy hanging lights and your roof is safe to work on, DIY can be a great family tradition. Professional installation makes the most sense when:
- Your roof is two stories or steep.
- You want a crisp, cut-to-fit look instead of off-the-shelf strands.
- You’d rather spend November weekends doing something else.
- You don’t want to store bins of lights all year.
