For every install we do, January takedown is included in the $4–$6 per linear foot price. Our crew removes your roofline and window lights and all the mounting hardware by hand. We check bulbs, label each run by section, and pack it. You can keep the packed bins yourself or add off-season storage.
Takedown is the part of the season nobody looks forward to. Here’s what ours includes, why it’s built into the price, and what your options are once the lights come down.
What’s included in takedown?
Takedown covers every roofline and window light we installed. On takedown day, the crew:
- Removes lights by hand, section by section. Nothing is yanked off the roof.
- Removes all mounting hardware, so nothing is left in your gutters or on your shingles.
- Checks bulbs and sockets as runs come down, so problems are found now instead of next November.
- Labels each run by section, like “front gable left,” “garage eave,” or “upstairs window 2.”
- Coils and packs each run in bins labeled for your home.
- Takes down timers and cords that were part of the install.
Add-ons like wrapped trees, wreaths, and landscape lighting are priced at your consultation, and we’ll explain how their takedown is handled at the same time.
Why is takedown included in the price?
Three reasons.
It’s where damage happens. Pulling lights down in a hurry on a cold, damp January weekend is how gutters get bent and shingles get scuffed. We’d rather the same crew that put the lights up take them down.
It keeps the price honest. A low install price with a surprise takedown bill in January isn’t a real price. With takedown built into the per-foot rate, the number from the estimator covers the whole season for your roofline and windows.
It makes next year better. Because every run is cut to fit a specific section of your home, careful labeling means each piece goes back exactly where it came from next fall.
When does takedown happen?

We don’t work on wet or icy roofs, so a stretch of bad January weather can shift dates by a few days. If your HOA has a firm removal date, that’s the date we plan around. What happens to the lights after takedown?
Who owns the lights, and what happens to them if you don’t rebook, depends on the package you choose. We’ll explain this clearly at your free design consultation so there are no surprises in January.
Once the lights are packed, there are two storage options:
- Keep them at home. The labeled bins go in your garage or attic until next season.
- Add off-season storage. We take the bins with us in January and bring them back ready to install in the fall. Storage is an optional add-on, priced at your consultation based on the size of your display.
Is off-season storage worth it?
It depends on your space. Storage tends to make sense if:
- Your garage is already full, or you park in it
- Your attic is hard to reach
- You want the season to be completely hands-off
- You plan to have us reinstall next fall
If you have room and don’t mind the bins, keeping them yourself works fine. Either way, labeled runs make next year’s install faster.
What takedown doesn’t include
A few things fall outside the included takedown:
- Lights we didn’t install. DIY or another company’s lights are quoted separately as takedown-only.
- Off-season storage. Optional add-on.
- In-season service calls. If a section goes out in December, service calls are an add-on.
- Pre-existing damage. We don’t repair roof or gutter problems that were there before the install.
